Gingivitis is a very common dental disease. In fact, statistic says that over 50% of adults have had gingivitis on 3 to 4 teeth during their life. It is considered to be the mildest form of gums disease, in some cases you even may not know that you have the condition! But it is important to take gingivitis seriously and deal with it properly, as it can lead to the periodontitis and the tooth lose.
Brian Halvorsen, the dentist, who has a work experience of 35 years, gives his advice to those who would like to defeat gingivitis. He says that this disease is characterized by swollen bleeding gums that sometimes can be painful. The cause of these unpleasant symptoms is an inflammatory process.
What exactly is gingivitis?
There many things that can lead to gingivitis, including smoking, bad eating habits and avoiding a visit to the dentist. However, the main reason why gingivitis develops is poor oral hygiene. In order to have healthy teeth and gums, you need to thoroughly brush your teeth twice a day, and use a dental floss once a day.
In order to cure gingivitis, doctor Brian Halvorsen advises continually gently brushing your gums. They can bleed in a process of cleaning, but don`t be afraid, it will help your gums to shrink to normal size and get back to normal color, he says. However, if after some time bleeding doesn`t stop, he recommends visiting your dentist or hygienist, who will be able to examine your gums closely and assess possible risks.
So, gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease. It is 90% preventable if you do not forget to brush your teeth. And even if you have the condition, with the right technique and treatment, it is treatable and reversible. But, of course, you have to be attentive to yourself and know what the symptoms of gingivitis are.
